I wear a tall size and I have wasted so much money purchasing t-shirts since they discontinued the "old" Modern T-Shirt. I could not find anything that matched the quality of the modern tee and I didn't like the one with the slightly longer sleeves that Gap was offering. This "new" modern t-shirt... fits the bill and I'm ready to get rid of all the mediocre shirts I bought from other places trying to find that "perfect" fit of Gap's Modern T-Shirt. This one is not quite at soft as the old one but the fit is really nice and it is still thicker than most Ts on the market. Time for me to purchase more!
I've been wearing a variation of the Modern t-shirt since the 90s…it wasn't even called modern at that point. Im the last couple years, the cut and quality of fabric has changed. The fabric while initially soft and visually appealing, pills much more quickly with just normal wear and it is overall, ...thinner. While the fabric composition has been the same for several years, there is a quality difference in those fibers. If you are GenZ or a young millennial, you may not realize this and think this stuff is great, but for anyone older, it's a bit of a bummer. The reality is, everything has gone down in quality, and one has to find a balance between affordable price and quality expectations. But, I'm not quite sure if Gap is really that much better than Old Navy is certain things. Today's Gap is probably close to ON quality from 5-10 years ago. My daughter has a pair of jeans from Gap that are less than 2-3 year old and already has holes where the pockets were sewn to the backside. And, these where not lightweight cotton. So, buy the shirts, they certainly aren't trash. But buy them on sale, wash on cold, dry lightly on low, and then hang to dry. And be prepared to deal with pilling!

I've been buying these tees for a couple of years, and this Spring 2026 season, they've changed the sleeve length and fit. The sleeves used to be longer and land mid-bicep, which is a very flattering length for all body types. Now, the sleeves are very short, like a cap sleeve. While I'm pretty fit, it feels like the sleeves are now crawling into my armpits. It's unflattering. I also used to buy size XS, but this new style runs at least one size smaller. I'm returning. The GAP had a great product - and this is no longer it.

The quality of the cotton has changed. It's thinner and the shirt seems to be tighter than when I purchased Modern T in the past. This was a staple in my wardrobe and I'm really disappointed. Please bring back the old style and material.

The material used has changed. It's a thinner cotton. I noticed the T's I've purchased in the past are made in Guatemala. And these are made in Cambodia. Please bring back the old ones. These are subpar.
