I'm 5'3" and ordered petite, which was the right choice. Agree with other reviewers- the skirt seems to be made to sit below the natural waist, with the top of the skirt (in my usual size) hitting at the top of my hip bone. In a size down from my usual, it sits nearly at my natural waist (so it si...ts a little below my belly button). I wish it were a little higher, so I might order one more size down and see. With my shape, it's most flattering to have the waist of the skirt at the smallest point of my body (so at belly button height). I have an hourglass shape (37x27x37) and things usually are a little loose on my waist in my usual size 4. If I were straight and slender I would probably aim to have this sit low on my hips like the models but, while I appreciate my hips, I don't necessarily want to accentuate them-I want to highlight my waist. Hopefully that's helpful to someone.
I loved the look of this skirt on the website, and I like denim skirts, so I ordered it in two sizes to try. First of all, the only thing 'denim' about this skirt is the color; otherwise, it is just a thin cotton with no heft and poor drape. I can easily see this becoming a limp rag after one wash...ing. The buttons are cheap looking, and even the buttonholes were not sewn properly. The only reason I gave it two stars was for the style--cut and length. But it is totally not worth the price and, honestly, it would be embarrassing to wear something of this low qulality.

This skirt is so good! The fabric is so soft and. It's a very flattering style. I've had so many compliments on it! Also very flattering! I sized down by one size. Usually wear an 18, the 16 fit perfectly.

I've never had issues with GAP denim and have been purchasing their pieces for years. This one is beautiful, but it has an intense smell! I washed it once on its own and air-dried it.. the smell was slightly less noticeable. The second time, I washed it with another piece of clothing, and the odor actually transferred onto the other item! I've now washed it about four times and tried numerous methods (including baking soda, white vinegar, etc.), but it still has a faint odor. I'm wondering if the factory that manufactured this piece used a problematic dye?

I personally didnt like this skirt on myself but the material is great and I do think it would suit someone with a slimmer body type better.
