I think this dress is labeled as oversized because of the dropped shoulders. Although it is a dropped shoulder, I think the top of the dress fits more like a classic fit tee shirt. When you put the dress on, the bottom half of the dress is more straight from where your actual shoulders will be. The ...bottom of the dress doesn't flare out. The slit is only on the left side of the leg up to about mid thigh. The material is thicker than a regular tee so less stretch. I think it's a nice weight for spring and even early fall. I'm 5'2" and purchased a SP. Fits great and it's a nice casual dress. Comes up to a few inches above my ankles. I recommend if purchasing, consider what size you purchase in a classic fit tee and keep in mind the thicker material just has less stretch. If you like your classic tee a little baggier or need to size up due to broader chest or shoulder, I would size up. One other thing I consider is where your hip falls compared to your shoulders. If you are curvier in the bottom, I think it may help to order one size up. Again, less stretchy material and the dress is cut straight down from where your shoulders are.
I have the men's heavyweight tee and I thought this dress would be comparable. The tee is soft and a heavier weight that denotes luxury, but not so much that it can't be worn in the summer months. Based on the fit notes, I purchased a small tall as it said the fit was Oversized and it appeared lik...e the dress was overly large on the models. I wanted that look but didn't want to be overwhelmed. The dress is not oversized. The small basically fit my hips, not tight, but like a straight shift dress. The cut wasn't boxy and it wasn't oversized anywhere. I returned both colors, black and brown and ordered my regular size medium tall hoping for a better look and fit. I honestly didn't notice how thin the fabric was in the first order as I was so disappointed with the fit. Second order was just as disappointing. Okay fit, but still not oversized. The dress was not cut for a boxy look. The sleeves do not fit like on the model. They're regular sleeves and thought they would be 2 inches longer based on the tall fit but they aren't and the circumference is too small. The only nice thing was the length. I'm 5'5" and wanted a maxi look. The tall hit at my ankles which was perfect. I think the only way this would fit oversized is if I bought an extra large which would be too long if I got tall and probably not long enough if I got regular. The fit on this is very concerning, confusing and frustrating. If I were to keep the medium tall, washed it and hung to dry it would shrink. I noticed how thin the dresses were on the second order. Not at all like the men's heavyweight tee. This doesn't feel like a hundred dollar dress. At best it's medium weight or moderately lightweight. I am a size 8, measurements: 36, 29, 40. Had the dressed been designed and cut like what the models are wearing the medium tall should have given me that look, but the dress on the model and the dresses I received are not the same. I am disappointed

This isn't thick or heavy weight in the slightest. But if you're looking for a light summer dress, the fit is pretty good. Definitely not worth the price point though

Straight up and down. If you have any curves at all you should order a size larger than you normally would. Very disappointed. Black dresses are my go to "getting dressed" option.

gapcanada.ca/...I ordered this. Now I understand some of them. They should call this a column dress with wide sleeves, a mid weight, and high slit. I'm a small petite, 5', 110 lbs for reference, I got the small petite, it wasn't oversized through the body, wasn't fitted either. The width of the sleeves are wide. It hit just above my ankle. Because the body isn't oversized, the very high slit opens easily. Old navy has a cotton t-shirt dress, I get them in a size up for loungewear, the weight is heavier, that's better, imo. This was a quick return. Wasn't feeling the quality either.

I love the cotton, tight knit dress but I found it not to be oversized at all. I ordered 1 size down and it was way too small. Way to tight. As well, compared to how it looks in pictures, the slit on the side is much higher than I thought it would be. I'm 5'7" and it reached half way up my thigh above my knee.

The slit in this dress is very high. It is higher than the tips of my fingers with my hands by my side - I will be returning it because of that. I know it is a different cut and fit, but the Modern Maxi in the same size is a perfect fit.
