I don't know who made up that sizing guide but obviously if you are a women's medium you shouldn't order the medium if that is also supposed to fit a men's medium. Loved them at first, only washed once with a couple of other pink items, and sadly they somehow ripped after wearing them another night for bed. For the price, I'm happy I got them on sale and didn't pay full.

These were good quality and got them on sale. It was hard to know what size to order because they are for men and women. I ordered a M for myself (I'm a woman) and that's what I order usually from Gap. They seemed to be more of a man fit - a little more slender fitting. But overall fine.
