I have a bigger waist and smaller hips/thighs. I purchased a Tall XL and usually wear 16/18 (34 in gap jeans). I'm 5'6" but mature and chubby, so I do not want short shorts. I'm a pretty consistent size 4 at gap and while the size small shorts were roomie in the waist I found the snugger fit in the hips and thighs unflattering. The fabric also while soft is kinda thick for a summer short.
