Fit is close to normal undies and does not dig in on the sides. 42 inch hips and the large fits perfectly.
This bottom arrived with some fuzz and grime resembling dandruff or a small scab stuck under the hygienic liner. It was stretched out and clearly had been returned by another customer but not cleaned properly first by GAP. This happened to me recently with something else bought online in the past 6 ...mos.- not sure why they are selling dirty clothes! The leg holes are seamless with no elastic so there is nothing to hold the garment in place - the fabric does not lie correctly and bunches up. Not great for actually swimming in!

Love the quality and ability to mix and match with swim tops but fit seems large. I ordered the same size I wear in women's underwear and the swim bottoms are a larger fit than the underwear.
