I still have Gap items from the 80's and 90's - lovely intarsia sweaters and well made pants and shirts… I have been disappointed in the quality lately… when I'd visit the store, everything looked like a wrinkled mess of cheap fabrics, poorly sewn. This dress reminds me of the Edwardian era-yes, the... fabric is sheer (it's a cotton lawn!), and yes the slip is too straight & short (why can't the slip be the same length as the dress - it would be so much more graceful and elegant- so I will have to find a workaround - or make my own slip)- but I am truly delighted by my purchase - and it has a romantic vintage quality (in white) - I love white summer dresses - was tempted by the black - but I tend to pass over black in the summer as I feel it attracts the heat - and supposedly mosquitos ! This one is a keeper 😊
I thought this dress was gorgeous online and was so disappointed when it arrived. The white color is very see through, even though there's two layers of fabric. I could clearly see my belly button through it, so that's just too sheer for me unless you're using it as a swim cover-up. Second, I'm 5'3 ...and would need petite sizing for this to work. The waist fell too low on me, making the fit off. At 5'3 it's a true maxi length, the hem falling about 1/2 inch from the floor. Lastly it ran big for me - the waist was gaping in the back which literally never happens to me, I'm an apple shaped. So you may want to size down one, although that may make the inner liner too tight on the chest for those w/ larger busts. This dress could possibly work if you're ok with something flimsy, you don't get the white, and you're taller than me. I'm 5'3 160lbs 34DDD and bought my usual size L.
