Allegedly organic cotton, but, note that material isn't GOTS certified or OEKO-TEX certified. Material feels plasticy out of the package, then a bit softer after the first wash; time will tell on its comfort and longevity. As an adult woman I am wearing the XL (finding cotton "boy shorts" underwear ...for women was a surprisingly difficult endeavor). The leg length is about 3" down the thigh and the material doesn't roll up the leg while moving or sleeping.
I have bought GAP underwear for my sons since they were toddlers and we always loved them. I recently ordered a set of boxer briefs for my oldest son (XXL) and realized they changed the material in them. They used to be thick, soft 100% Organic Cotton, but now they are 95% Organic Cotton, 5% Elast...ane which makes a HUGE difference in the fit and feel of these underwear. I could tell as soon as I pulled the first pair out of the package. They are much thinner and feel scratchy. They are also much tighter and don't have as much give. My son thought they were very uncomfortable. I will be returning these and will be have to find another brand for my kids. So disappointed!

If you child is on the chubby side, these boxer briefs are very tight fitting. I wish they made them in husky size to give a bit more room.

Both my kids do not care for these newer edition with some spandex. They are scratchy and the waistband is not comfy soft cotton. Boo, why mess with a good thing.
