I purchased this sweater in size medium, tall because I wanted a bit of oversize fit and to be able to wear it with leggings. Hard to button and very scratchy wool ;-(

The fit is great. Unfortunately, the wool is very scratchy and a struggle for buttons to fit through the button hole. It is definitely not the same quality of the older Gap Marino cardigans. I will be returning.

This year's navy version has been disappointing. I have hand washed it, and worn it twice, and it is very pilled. I wanted an identical duplicate to the same cardigan I purchased two years ago. I have the same style merino cardigan from two years ago, and it has proved a useful layering piece for travel. I have washed the older version several times by hand and occasionally on cold in the delicate cycle, and it looks newer than the sweater I bought recently. I wish it worked. I will still wear it, But why would I reach for a pilled duplicate when I have an almost pristine version of the same thing? I will still buy at gap, but most of my merino is from banana republic, and I guess it will remain this way.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Thinner looser weave than other merino wool sweaters I have. The Tuscan red colour (I returned because wasn't a good shade for me) was a thicker nicer wool than the black one that I kept. The hand-feel is not great. Take care washing. I laundered it in cold water on delicate cycle in a mesh bag, with other black delicates, but it came out wrinkled, even after careful air drying on a rack. Re-rinsed delicate/cold, reshaped and smoothed, and it improved somewhat. Sleeves and cuffs are on the snug side. 5'2" 105lbs regular size XS fits.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

I love Gap's and BR's merino pieces and add new pieces to my wardrobe every fall. This year they run about a size larger than usual, in keeping with the oversized look that is in style. I bought this cardigan and the matching merino turtlenecks and crewnecks in every colour this year (love the Rose Pewter Pink which is a beige/taupe colour and the Tuscan Red!) and the to update my look with this roomier fit. My stats: 34D-28-38, 124 lbs with narrow shoulders and purchased my usual size for Gap knits: PXS. It fit me like on the model. I wish Gap made a PXXS so that my daughter could become a life-time customer as well. Vanity sizing is at play with Gap tops and sweaters. #sweepstakes
